Skadi is a dynamic, indie-dream-pop band based in the Denver area that performs original music with a handful of covers, or shall we say, tasty interpretations, sprinkled throughout. It is obvious the heavily melodic style is afflicted with folk, jazz, funk, and blues. Singer, Erica Bisbey, has been compared to Stevie Nicks, Macy Gray and Tori Amos. Songwriting is inspired by everyday life. Everything from heartache and moving on, to newly found love. That all sounds great, but what do they really sound like?? Imagine The Grateful Dead and Phish had a baby, it’s godparents were the Allman Brothers and Led Zeppelin. Because it’s parents were on the road touring, the baby was raised by close relatives, Billy Joel and Fleetwood Mac. Even good parents need a break, so Florence + The Machine and Lucius were were hired as full-time nannies. The music speaks for itself; driving guitar rhythms, eclectic solos exploiting a wall of effects, electronic synth mixed with the simplicity and innocence of clean, catchy piano riffs, symphonic walking bass married with solid funk rock and jazz drum grooves. Each player is an artisan in their own right, making room for dynamic and improvisational fluidity. The music relies on sonic textures as much as the melody itself.
